History
The hamlets of the farm “col di lana” were created before the World War II, but it was immediately after that they became the turning point of the farm’s activity of the Valleverde company. The Hotel Selva Candida was originally the company’s center with the stables, the hay-lofts, the farmer’s apartments, the storages and the cellar. In the 70’s the farm’s activity was suspended to make place to the garden center activity, and consequently the original use of the structures was abandoned. It’s only in the new millennium that the hamlets and the annexed buildings have been restored bringing them back to life and re-establishing it’s hospitality.
Recovery
The idea of the hamlet’s recovery came out during the 80’s, but it’s only on the occasion of the Jubilee that the project started to develop. The restoration and the successive preparations were, nevertheless, much more complicated and the opening had to be postponed until September 2001.
All works were inspired by sustainability principles and environmental compatibility: the restoration of the existing hamlet as a value, is not only economic but also cultural and landscaping, the re-utilization of many original materials to maintain the aesthetic integrity of the building (tiles, trusses and beams on the ceiling of the hall), the building techniques that respect the tradition of the Roman countryside along with modern technology, the technical devices and advanced resources for energy saving (walls and roofs), the enlargements that respect the architectural integrity and the landscaping of the original building.
Daily engagement
The spirit that inspired us from the beginning comes back every day since May 2008, we have installed a 50 KWh photovoltaic system . This allows us every year to:
• produce around 65000 KWh electric power;
• avoid the emission in the atmosphere of around 40 tons of Co2;
• insert in the net about 12 Kwh electric power for everybody’s use;
• cover about 50% of our power consumption;
• lower the electric bill
therefore
• keep our clients tariffs at a very competitive level!!!
